Eye of the Lepus

This bunny is just one of the many denizens of my gardens. S/he is most likely from one of last year's litters. This eastern cottontail rabbit, Sylvilagus floridanus, is not at all shy and will let me get to within a few feet before ambling off. On this occasion, s/he was watching me from within a thicket of european dogwoods near my peppers and tomato plants. For those interested, these images were taken just after sunset with a Canon 70-200 mm EF lens with a 1.4x extender and were hand-held. (I love the image stabilization on this very sharp lens.)

PS: The title is a tongue in cheek homage to that wonderfully awful grade-B scifi movie "Night of the Lepus". Worth viewing. MST3K did a wonderful version of it. Check it out.

Best wishes,
