Personal Background

Bob is a retired university professor and scientist, whose 40+ year career of research focused on the molecular mechanisms underlying bacterial biofilm formation and its effects on human activities, particularly human disease.

Bob grew up in Connecticut and graduated cum laude from UConn. He did graduate research at the University of Maryland, postdoctoral training at Cold Spring Harbor (NY) Laboratories, and postdoctoral research at the Agouron Institute in La Jolla, California. He has served on the faculty of Louisiana State University and multiple campuses of the University of Maryland, with a laboratory at the Institute of Marine Technology (IMET) at the Columbus Center in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. He is the author of over 80 scientific publications, the recipient of four patents, and has served as a scientific advisor on numerous federal and state review panels, as well as national and international dissertation review committees. His research has been premiered in the New York Times and multiple other news and media sites. He is the CEO of Advanced Biotechnology Consulting Services (ABCS).

Bob has been a photographer since his early teens, starting with simple Kodak “Brownie” style cameras, and moving up to his father’s Argus 35mm rangefinder. In high school, Bob was gifted a Canon FT 35mm SLR and 50 mm f1.2 lens as a gift. He used that camera and Canon lenses for nearly 30 years before moving to digital photography in 2000.

Bob is a keen environmentalist, birder, fisherman, and a restless spirit. He plays saxophone in a jazz quintet that can be heard at gigs throughout the Baltimore-Washington area. He currently resides in the Baltimore area, where he enjoys nature’s beauty and all its four seasons.
