Up Jumped Spring

Up Jumped Spring

This past Sunday, I went on a hike in search of spring peepers (Pseudacris crucifer) , or more precisely: to listen for their chorusing. I hate to admit it, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen one alive in the wild. One day.

Each year around the Ides of March, these little frogs start chirping in nearby bogs and swampy areas within a mile of my home. It’s like clockwork. This year was no exception, and right on cue there they were sounding off the start of spring.

While the frogs evaded my lens, a number of small flowers were opened in the grasses around the bog presenting a wonderful welcome to springtime.

I’m looking forward to warmer weather (and hopefully a bit less rain).

Best wishes,

Bob
